“They should be halfway on engraving Benzema’s name on the Ballon d’Or.”: Twitter reacts as Karim Benzema strikes yet another hat-trick in the Champions League 2021-22 to help Real Madrid beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge

Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema has his name written at the top of the much-awaited Champions League first-leg tie between Real Madrid and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Karim scored a hat-trick in the game overshadowing Tuchel’s men after he scored two brilliant headers and then capitalized on a Mendy mistake to complete his hat-trick. Los Blancos went top of Chelsea as they secured a 3-1 win in the away leg of the Champions League 2022 Quarter-finals.

The 34-year old Frenchman is having a dream run of his life as whatever he touches turns into gold. Benzema has scored 11 goals in just 8 matches in the champions league this season. He has now become the fourth player in the competition to score 80+ goals after he nets a hat trick.

After Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema became the first player to score hat-tricks in two Champions League knock-out matches. Cristiano had scored hat tricks in the 2016-17 season against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munchen.

After the match, Rio Ferdinand in a recent interview with BT Sport, said, “They should be halfway on engraving Benzema’s name on the Ballon d’Or.” The former Manchester United star feels that it is time to honor the trophy by giving it to Karim Benzema after his glorious season.”

Benzema’s three goals consisted of two outstanding and astonishing headers, first from the cross of Vinicius Jr. and the second one from Luka Modric. His hat-trick goal came from a silly mistake from Chelsea goalkeeper, Eduoard Mendy, after he tried to pass the ball to his defender. Benzema snatched the ball and placed the ball in an open net completing his second back-to-back hat-tricks.
