Thiago Silva, a veteran defender, has called out a fan page who opined about dropping the Brazilian from the Chelsea playing XI.“We are playing with a line of 4 my friend,” said Silva. Chelsea fan page, talkcfc, shared their opinion on the aging Brazilian defender after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at home.
A Moises Caicedo error and a through ball by Taiwo Awoniyi saw Anthony Elanga score the winner for the Garibaldi Reds. Another disappointing result in the season, Chelsea fans were livid with the result. This was Nottingham Forest’s first win at Stamford Bridge since 1995. With criticisms floating across social media, Silva replied to one in particular. “It’s time to drop Thiago Silva,” wrote talkcfc on X. “We play a back 5 because of him, we are better off playing a back 4”, they continued.
Thiago Silva responded by stating that Chelsea were playing with a line of 4. The player however was ‘ok’ with taking responsibility for the loss. The through ball from Awoniyi went through Silva’s legs which put Elanga one-on-one with the goal-keeper. “No problem in assuming that I am also responsible for the defeat.“ replied the center-back.
The second loss of the season, the Boys from the Bridge are currently 12th with 4 points in 4 games. 5 goals scored and 5 conceded, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping for a turn in results after the International break.
Thiago Silva, Chelsea’s No.6
Thiago Silva signed for Chelsea in 2020 after spending 8 years at Paris Saint-Germain, arriving on the back of a loss in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich. Signing at the age of 35, fans believed the Brazilian veteran would provide the squad with experience that was lacking in Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rüdiger. A small number of fans also believed that he could only be seen as a short-term solution due to his age. He was not a week-in week-out player. How Silva proved them wrong.
Thiago Silva has appeared 85 times in the Premier League in 3 years so far, and he is still a rock at the back for Chelsea. Thiago Silva had joined Chelsea during Frank Lampard‘s reign, however, it was under Thomas Tuchel that the Brazilian finally achieved European Success. Chelsea lost just one game on their way to Champions League Success. With only 4 goals conceded throughout the tournament, Silva was instrumental to Chelsea’s title run and their defense. After playing for some of the top teams in Europe, he finally lifted the Champions League at the age of 36.
Thiago Silva is one of the best center-backs in the League. While Chelsea may struggle, most fans would take Silva for their team in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. Chelsea are blessed to have a defender of his quality.
