Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been going on for over 4 months now. The Russian forces have not backed down and the spoils of war just keep getting bigger. As a result, Ukraine’s World Cup qualifier game against Scotland also had to be pushed up. However, last night was ‘2 hours of happiness’ said the Ukrainian president after his country defeated Scotland 3-1 to move a step closer to Qualifying for the World Cup.
After the game, Brazilian legend Pele also finally spoke up on the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine. The Brazilian legend was heard pleading to Russian president Vladimir Putin to end the war.
Pele released a statement on Instagram saying, “I want to use today’s game as an opportunity to make a request: Stop this invasion. No argument exists that can justify violence. This conflict is wicked, unjustifiable, and brings nothing but pain, fear, terror, and anguish.”
Vladamir Putin has earlier called Pele one of his favorite players

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pele last met during the 2017 Confederations Cup. A tournament (now canceled) was played between the champions of each continent. Speaking about the meeting as well, Pele wrote, “When we met in the past and exchanged smiles accompanied by a long handshake, I never thought one day we would be as divided as we are today.”
Ukraine defeated Scotland last night thanks to goals by Yaremchuk, Yarmolenko, and Artem Dovbyk. Man City’s Zincheko also grabbed an asset for his country in the 3-1 victory.
Ukraine will now face Wales on 4th June in their final World Cup Qualifying game. Wales faces Ukraine on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Poland in the R1 of the UEFA Nations League. However, the Robert Page managed side is set to have their star player, Gareth Bale back with them against Ukraine.
