Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey recently revealed the gender of his unborn child in a unique way. He kicked a mini-football that burst open with pink dust, indicating that they were expecting a girl. This fun gender reveal followed Janine Mackson’s earlier Instagram post showcasing her baby bump with the caption “New Beginnings,” to which Partey responded, “God did.”

Thomas Partey signed for Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid after the club paid £45 Million to activate his release clause. Since he arrived, the player has been pivotal in Mikel Arteta‘s plans, possessing all the qualities the manager demands in a central-defensive midfielder.

Unfortunately, Partey was out with a groin injury for the majority of the new season. He made his return to first-team football in a 15-minute cameo against Manchester City at the Emirates and remained as an unused sub against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

With Thomas Partey’s contract running out in 2025, Arsenal fans will be curious to see how their manager will deal with the player when other teams come flocking for his signature.

Thomas Partey will be unavailable for selection in January

A trouble that many clubs around Europe will face, Arsenal could potentially lose Thomas Partey for a whole month – missing another set of games for Arsenal – between the dates of 11th January and 11th February due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool is another team who will miss their Egyptian player, Mohamed Salah along with Manchester United‘s goalkeeper Andre Onana joining his nation of Cameroon for the tournament. The issue for most clubs is the timing of the competition as the AFCON takes place during one of the most hectic times in the football calendar.

The Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp, in 2020, criticized the timing of these tournaments by bringing attention to the poor scheduling, not taking into account the player’s welfare. He said:

No one thinks of players' welfare… authorities need to come together to sort these things out one talk to each other. Ask one of the teams what they think about playing another game.

With Mikel Arteta already having a squad lacking in central-defensive midfielders, missing a match-fit Thomas Partey could massively affect his club’s chances of lifting the Premier League.
