“Those bastards sold us Ferran Torres when he can’t score goals” – Joan Laporta claims Pep Guardiola tricked Barcelona to pay €55 million for Spanish international
Barcelona president Joan Laporta criticised January signing Ferran Torres for his lack of goals since joining, according to a shocking revelation made on Joan Fontes’ Podcast. The Spanish international joined Camp Nou from Manchester City during the winter transfer window in a deal worth around €55 million in initial fees plus €10 million in add-ons.
The 22-year-old finished with six goals and six assists in 24 appearances for Barca across all competitions. While he contributed significantly to the club’s second-place finish in La Liga, Torres was also guilty of missing several golden opportunities, which earned him a lot of flak from some fans.
Indeed, the former Valencia ace’s finishing left a lot to be desired on occasion, and it seems like his profligacy and lack of clinical edge in front of goal did not escape the notice of Barcelona president Joan Laporta. According to the podcast, Laporta chastised Torres in front of a small group of journalists, saying “I like Pep and Txiki, but those bastards sold us Ferran Torres when he can’t score goals.”
It is also claimed that videos of Laporta making those statements in front of journalists had to be deleted. It will be interesting to hear the Barcelona manager’s reaction to this revelation.
Torres’ lack of goals, on the other hand, is not without merit. That is an area in which the Spanish international must improve before the upcoming season, especially given the increased competition for positions with Barcelona signing Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
Barcelona reach agreement to sign Bayern Munich’s talisman Robert Lewandowski
Barcelona have agreed on a deal to sign one of the world’s best strikers in Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski will move to Camp Nou after eight years after an agreement in principle had been reached with Bayern Munich in a deal worth a reported initial €45m. The completion of the transfer is subject to a medical being passed and contracts being signed.
The Polish striker scored an incredible 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern, including 98 over the last two seasons, and his time at the club yielded eight Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and the Champions League in 2020.
