WATCH: Thousand of fans jump into stadium as Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham earns promotion in English league after 1970
The Red Dragons won in front of a crowd of over 10,000 to clinch the National League title

Wrexham AFC finally gained a long-awaited return to the fourth tier of English football, having played the last 15 years in the National League. The Welsh side defeated Boreham Wood 3-1 to clinch automatic promotion. The Red Dragons have amassed 110 points throughout the campaign, and still have one more match to go.
Fans poured onto The Racecourse’s pitch at full-time, all eager to join in the jubilations. Actor Paul Rudd also accompanied co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to the match. The crowd witnessed a historic day in the Welsh club’s history, as Paul Mullin’s brace and Elliot Lee’s goal helped the side secure the top spot.
The Deadpool actor was in tears at the final whistle. Speaking to BT Sport Reynolds said, “People said at the beginning ‘Why Wrexham?’ This is exactly why Wrexham, happening right now.” The Canadian continued, “I’m not sure I can actually process what happened tonight. I’m speechless.”
The Red Dragons were chased throughout the season by Notts County. The Magpies are four points behind Wrexham and will finish second. Despite their incredible season, Notts County will not achieve automatic promotion and will fight for it in the playoffs. The two top clubs in the National League matched each other stride for stride, and it is a pity that only one is guaranteed to play in the fourth tier of English football next season.
