Three possible destinations for Romelu Lukaku if Chelsea gets rid of him this summer due to his poor form
Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea return has not gone to plan and it may well be that the striker departs after just one season back at Stamford Bridge. Although Lukaku signed a five-year deal with Chelsea last year after the Blues signed him for a whopping €115 million, the Belgian has not been able to make much of an impact, often finding himself on the bench.
The Belgian striker has just five goals in the Premier League 2021-22 to show for his efforts and has fallen down the pecking order as it stands with Werner, Ziyech, Havertz, and even Pulisic ahead of him
Just twelve months ago, Lukaku was one of the hottest properties with several European Clubs sniffing around and that might be the reason why many big clubs will still be interested in him. Here are three possible destinations in which the big Belgian can be seen next season-
Newcastle United
Newcastle United with their new riches might be tempted by the prospect of acquiring Lukaku who has scored 251 goals in 508 club career appearances. Lukaku would certainly be an upgrade over Newcastle’s current striker i.e Chris Wood, Callum Wilson, and Joelinton who has excelled in a deeper role under Eddie Howe.
After the takeover, many new players can land themselves in Newcastle United and Lukaku could prove to be their next Alan Shearer.
FC Barcelona
As for Barcelona, they already have the likes of Memphis Depay, Aubameyang, and Luuk De Jong as striker options. With Aubameyang being on a hot streak and Ferran Torres inevitably taking the striker’s position in the near future, not to mention Lukaku’s adaptability to Xavi’s Tiki-Taka approach, signing Lukaku doesn’t make a lot of sense.
However, since Depay, de Jong, and even Dembele are expected to leave this summer, Lukaku can become an asset for Xavi.
Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain is an interesting case in this situation. They will inevitably lose Kylian Mbappe in the summer when his contract expires which is a big blow in football as well as in financial terms. They have to replace Mbappe’s goal output which is not gonna be an easy task.
Lukaku prior to this season has been prolific and would certainly guarantee goals in this star-studded PSG side. Moreover, there are rumors that even Marcus Rashford might play for PSG next season, meaning a possible reunion of the two former Manchester United mates is quite possible.
Can Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan after a disappointing run at Chelsea?
According to Calciomercato, Lukaku is doing everything in his power to push through a return to Inter ahead of the next season after departing the Serie A champions in August. He was the spearhead of their attack last season along with Lautaro Martinez, a thing that helped them with the league after 11 years.
The 28-year-old is said to be willing to take a pay cut. However, Inter Milan is unable to finance a permanent transfer and may instead look to purchase him on an initial loan.
