INSANE: When Barcelona’s Diego Maradona started a war against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa Del Ray final 38 years ago

It has been 38 years since Barcelona legend Diego Maradona started a fight in the Copa Del Ray final against Athletic Bilbao and he kicked the Atletico Bilbao goalkeeper which triggered the war in 1984.

His fight started with the “Butcher of Bilbao”, Andoni Goikoetxea, after the final whistle was blown in the 1984 Kings Cup final who previously had broken Maradona’s ankle in their last meeting. Maradona would go on to lose the final but made sure he wins the battle.

Players of both the team were involved in the tussle and players went rogue by kicking each other inside the field irrespective of knowing the consequences.

Athletic player Sola did a gesture showing Maradona to “f**k off” after the game ended which made the Argentine attack the other players on the field without caring anything in the world. The consequence ended up as Maradona had to leave Barcelona after they failed to win the cup on that night and the battle was the only way out.

Diego Maradona’s achievements in his career and his 1986 World Cup victory

The Argentinian professional footballer, Diego Maradona, is one of the greatest players of all time and was awarded the FIFA best player of the century. He started his career for Argentinos Junior in 1976 and scored 115 goals in 167 matches in five years.

Barcelona saw the genius of the man and signed him for a then-record fee in the year 1982. He made his debut for his national team in 1976 and became the youngest player to appear in a World Cup.

Diego Maradona has been under many controversies regarding drug intake and was banned for fifteen months and also had to leave Barcelona and signed for Napoli.

1986 was a glorious year in his career as he led his national team to the first-ever World Cup glory and has scored one of the greatest goals in the history of football, popularly known as the “Hand of God”. He also won the FIFA world cup golden ball and the silver shoe in the same year for Argentina.
