The January transfer window has been blown wide open, with rumors, deals, and potential moves circulating all over the footballing community. The latest report surrounding former Chelsea man Timo Werner is just as surprising, as a news outlet has linked the German striker with a move back to the Premier League. As it stands, RB Leipzig are working on a deal to send Timo Werner to Tottenham Hotspur!
Werner last played in the Premier League for Chelsea in the 2021/22 season. Even though Werner faced harsh trolls and severe criticism because of his struggles in front of goal, he ended his time under Thomas Tuchel with a Champions League medal. He was sold back to former club RB Leipzig for a fee in the region of €30 million in 2022. While the German only has 2 goals in 8 games to show for this season, interest from Tottenham Hotspur has come as a surprise for the footballing community.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Werner has ‘accepted’ Tottenham’s proposal as he is keen to return to the Premier League. It is also understood that Ange Postecoglou has given the green light for the deal to go through. Werner is also keen to work with the manager.
It has also been reported that both clubs are currently negotiating a loan deal with an option to buy in the future. Leipzig are currently 4th in the Bundesliga while Tottenham are 5th in the Premier League.
Tottenham to bid farewell to Eric Dier? Bundesliga club on the verge of signing defender
Eric Dier has recently fallen out of favor with Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. The 29-year-old defender is currently nursing an injury as the Tottenham boss hit out against a reporter for suggesting that his absence from the squad is due to a potential move away from the club. Even though Tottenham Hotspur claim that there has been no ‘direct’ contact from the German club, a move to Bayern would be a dream come true for the defender.
It is understood that Eric Dier’s qualities have great admiration from the side of Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel. The German formerly coached Chelsea during his time in the Premier League. Tuchel believes that Dier can operate both as a defender and as a defensive midfielder due to his qualities. However, time is ticking for Dier as Postecoglou prefers Emerson Royal and Ben Davies at the back.
Postecoglou recently had a bust-up with the press as he reiterated that Dier was injured and not left out for ‘other’ reasons. Subsequently, Postecoglou also said that Spurs could afford to lose Dier in January amidst links to the German champions. Tottenham are up against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
