After a massive spending spree, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has his sight set on a new club. He has expressed the possibility of buying a minority stake in Sporting CP. It is one of Portugal’s significant clubs producing legends like Cristiano Ronaldo. This move is part of Chelsea’s strategy to create a multi-million team network with Chelsea at its heart. It could be said that the CFG, the City Football Group, and Manchester City inspired this entire business move.

BlueCo, a consortium led by Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, has recently bought Strasbourg in Ligue 1. This marks their efforts in building a multi-club organization. Sporting appeals to Chelsea because of its intensive youth development program and successful academy. Sporting CP’s board has yet to comment on the entire situation as to whether they would be willing to sell the club.

The helm at Chelsea is also focused on improving the club’s on-pitch performances. Even after spending around $1 billion, the club wants to produce superstars. They aspire to build a ‘100-point team‘ like the ‘Centurions‘ of Manchester City. However, if BlueCo buys a stake in Sporting CP, it will be an excellent opportunity for young Chelsea players to develop in elite conditions.

Sporting CP informed Ugarte that they would sell him to the English club, but Chelsea may withdraw. Dealing with FFP violations, Chelsea will have to be careful about the business they choose to indulge in the near future.

Ever since Chelsea secured the signature of Mauricio Pochetinno, they have tried their best to be cautious in the transfer market. As reported by FootballTransfers, Chelsea’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte has been hampered for multiple reasons. Their pressures to secure a manager first are one of them.

Ugarte’s move to Chelsea hit a roadblock when PSG activated his release clause. The French club agreed on personal terms and paid a £52 million release clause (€60m/$64m) to Sporting CP, which ended Chelsea’s pursuit. The English club has however defined the situation as their voluntary pull-out from the deal. It was also reported that Chelsea considered buying a minority stake in the club as part of the deal.

Chelsea have, however, denied all the allegations and is working to strengthen the squad. Ugarte has yet to make his debut for PSG, while Chelsea’s squad roster is full to entertain any new signings.
