During an appearance on The Daily Wire’s “Crain & Company,” former Auburn football coach and current Alabama senator, Tommy Tubberville took aim at USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe. The senator made it clear that Rapinoe he believes Rapinoe’s pro-lqbtq+ stance would’ve been different had it took place during her time on field.
“The problem is she’s voicing now her opinion that, ‘Hey, trans boys should be able to compete against women. Well, if that would have happened during her career, she’d have been working at Safeway or Piggly Wiggly,” Tuberville said. It is important to note that Sen. Tuberville is a Republican, a party that has been against the trans-rights activism in the United States.
Rapinoe, 37, has not retired from playing professional soccer. In January, she re-signed with OL Reign to return for the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League. She is just one of five players to remain with the same club since the NWSL’s first season in 2013. She will also make an appearance for the USWNT in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia over the summer.
The new rules would expand the meaning of sex discrimination to include gender identity, which would prevent schools and colleges from banning transgender athletes. Champion collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines slammed professional soccer player Megan Rapinoe on Twitter over trans competitors in women’s sports.
Rapinoe tweeted that “trans kids” are not the issue in sports, instead, “unequal pay, sexual abuse & lack of resources” are to blame. Gaines shot back at Rapinoe with her own tweet writing, “It’s worth noting that 1) you’re done with your athletic career and 2) because you aren’t sexually attracted to men, it’s unlikely you will ever have a daughter to defend. To me, this looks like a classic case of virtue signaling because you have nothing to personally lose.”
‘This team is the best we’ve ever had’ – USWNT veteran Alex Morgan confident of World Cup chances
United States icon Alex Morgan claims the current USWNT is “the best we’ve ever had”, but they are wary of England heading into the 2023 World Cup. While the USWNT are in a confident mood ahead of a trip to Australia and New Zealand, Morgan concedes that European champions England pose a serious threat.
Morgan has told The Guardian, “I think that this team is the best we’ve ever had. We have the confidence that we need to go into a World Cup and prove why we deserve to win. I feel like we have the talent, we have the quality, we have the right coach, the right players, the right camaraderie, the right mentality“. She added on the Lionesses, who have also savored Finalissima glory in 2023, “I think they’ve definitely come a long way in the last couple of years, and I think that’s credit to a lot of things.“
