Real Madrid star Toni Kroos is not known to shy away from voicing his opinions and that was the case when the German midfielder pitched in on the mass Saudi exodus while speaking to Marca. Following Cristiano Ronaldo‘s move to the Saudi Pro League, several high-profile players and youngsters alike have made the move to Saudi.
When asked about the same, Real Madrid star and veteran midfielder Toni Kroos was visibly distressed and disappointed in the trend that has come forth. Kroos says that even though the League has high ambitions and plans to become a top league, it all boils down to money. Kroos said that it is purely a decision of money and is ultimately “against football“. Kroos also opined that the League no matter how upcoming and well-intentioned, was marred by the fact that Human rights violations are rampant in the country.
Kroos also made headlines when he commented “embarrassing” under Fabrizio Romano’s HERE WE GO for the transfer of Celta Vigo and La Liga star Gabri Veiga. Following his breakout season, the 21-year-old received multiple offers from European clubs including teams in the Premier League. However, the youngster chose Al-Ahli as his new destination after the club beat Napoli to his signing. Kroos was not impressed by the transfer and made this clear through his comment.
The German midfielder slammed the league for being ‘anti-football’. He also received criticism after his “embarrassing” comment, calling the player jealous and entitled. Kroos however, acknowledged former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo’s move, claiming that it was understandable and well timed, given that the player made the move in the later stages of his career, and not in his prime or formative years, as is the recent trend.
