Jack Grealish, who came off the bench, combined brilliantly with Phil Foden and evaded Real Madrid’s penalty box. He then chopped inside with Real’s right-back Carvajal in no man’s land leaving an open chance on goal with Real Madrid’s keeper having to show his athleticism.

Courtois had to stretch his left foot to save the goal with the ball going off the post for the corner which was the least he could do in the situation. Real Madrid went on to win 6-5 on aggregate at extra-time with the save proving crucial to reaching the final.

Thibaut Courtois saved his best for the last. The Belgian international made a total of nine saves which is the highest a keeper has made in a Champions League Final. Of those nine saves, four shots came from Salah’s boot with one or two that could have also made the list but Sadio Mane’s shot had venom which the Egyptian was lacking on the day.

Liverpool were dominating in the first 20 minutes and during such a good play, Mane skipped past Casemiro and was one on one against Eder Militao. With a quick body feint, he deceived the Brazillian and took a venomous shot with everyone in the stadium believing had gone in.

But Thibaut Courtois has other ideas. He stretched his wings span to reach the ball and deflect it onto the post and the collecting the rebounding ball. His save was so impressive that his defensive teammates celebrated it just like any other goal.
