Tottenham Hotspur‘s manager, Ange Postecoglou, wants to get rid of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. After his team beat Liverpool last weekend, there’s been a lot of controversy surrounding VAR.
VAR was introduced before the 2019/2020 Premier League season. Since then, it has caused a lot of debates. Slowing down the game, and halting celebrations, leading to fans and players getting infuriated. When asked if VAR should be scrapped, the Tottenham boss said, “I think the technology isn’t ready for our game in its current form. Our game is unique.”
“It was there for clear and obvious errors. But, it seems like everything now,” claimed Ange. The Aussie mentioned the effects of VAR which have caused even smaller issues – throw-ins and yellow cards – to be magnified during post-game analysis. Ange further mentioned his love for the ‘frenetic pace’ of the English game as compared to other leagues.

Ange Postecoglou has made Tottenham exciting to watch
Tottenham Hotspurs have been cruising under new head coach Ange Postecoglou. Undefeated since the beginning of the new Premier League season, the Aussie-Greek gaffer has brought in an exciting style of attacking football to the Londoners. This has seen the Lillywhites score over 17 times already this season.
His ‘Ange-Ball’ style has made Spurs one of the most thrilling teams in the Premier League this season. Ange aims for his side to score more goals than the opposition, valuing exciting 4-3 wins over dull 1-0 victories. “The end goal is (that) we just want to score more goals than everyone else. Me winning 4-3 is more exciting than winning 1-0,” the man from Greece explained about the type of football he prefers. Despite doubts due to his international experience, managing Spurs to their first win over Liverpool since 2017 has silenced critics.
However, the biggest cloud hanging over Spurs’ head is their current trophy drought. Trophyless since 2008, Ange Postecoglou’s side has already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup. With only the FA Cup and Premier League left as options, many believe Spurs will go another season without a cup.
