Transfer News: Darwin Nunez attracts a plethora of clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United after his superb performance against Liverpool in UEFA Champions League 2021-22

Darwin Nunez put up a stunning display against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, scoring a goal for Benfica. As a result, many clubs are now bidding for the services of the Uruguyan international. With the deal worth around £60 million, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are all in the race to sign the 22-year-old.

At Anfield, Darwin Nunez showed he can run, hold the ball, and finish pretty well. Clubs watching on will have been impressed by his ability to play through the middle or out wide, too. On another day, he could have walked away with the match ball in this strange Champions League clash where Liverpool was in complete control but managed to concede three goals.

Darwin Nunez found the back of the net three times that evening but was allowed the goal only once while two of those were ruled out for offside, proving his strong finishing ability in the box. He also took a spectacular volley only to force a low save from Allison.

Speaking of the forward even Liverpool’s boss Klopp said, “Extremely good looking boy and a decent player. Really, really good player I have to say, I knew him before of course but he played pretty much in front of me with tough battles with Ibou Konate. Strong, quick, looked calm with his finish. Good, really good. Like I say in these situations if he stays healthy, he has a big career ahead of him.

Darwin has performed exceptionally for Benfica, scoring 32 goals this season in all competitions for the Lisbon club. He also scored a hat-trick in Benfica’s win over Belenenses at the weekend.

Why do Arsenal and Manchester United want to sign Darwin Nunez?

Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his squad with the signing of a new striker this summer following Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang’s exit in the January transfer window, while Alexandre Lacazette could leave on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the season.

On the other hand, Manchester United has their own rebuild in place and Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils’ possible new manager, could look for a player like Nunez to add to his squad over the summer fulfilling the essential physicality and mentality needed.
