The streets of Madrid were electric with anticipation as Real Madrid fans gathered to cheer on their team as they made their way to the Santiago Bernabeu for the highly-anticipated Champions League clash against Manchester City. The atmosphere was incredible, as thousands of fans packed the streets, waving flags and banners, singing and chanting the team’s name.
The Real Madrid bus slowly made its way through the throngs of fans, honking its horn in response to the raucous cheers and applause that greeted it at every turn. Los Blancos host Manchester City in an all-important Champions League semi-final first-leg. Real Madrid tore apart Chelsea 4-0 on aggregate en route to the semis. Meanwhile, the Citizens overcame Bundesliga defending champions Bayern Munich relatively easily, winning 3-0 at the Etihad before finishing the job with a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Manchester City will be keen to correct past failures, while Real looks to add yet another Champions League to their collection. The home side famously scored two late goals against City, with a winner in extra time, to seal one of the most dramatic European comebacks in recent times.
Guardiola may like to point out that his defeat at the Bernabeu last season was only his second as a manager in ten visits, six of which were victories. Meanwhile, Madrid has lost three of their last six La Liga games, leaving them in third place and their championship defence in shambles. There’s a reason City are the bookmakers’ favourite to win the league. Nonetheless, the Champions League is Madrid’s bread and butter. It is set to be a clash of epic proportions.

Pep Guardiola said his Manchester City players will make a “huge mistake” if they are motivated by revenge against Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal at Bernabeu.
“It would be a huge mistake,” Guardiola said. “We are not here for revenge. What happened, happened. Always it happens in football because you deserve it. We did more than everything to reach the final but sometimes it’s not enough. The lesson we can learn is to get a good result, perform well and have the opportunity to reach the final in the second leg in Manchester.”
“Last year was tough, but we had an exceptional first game in Manchester and a really good game here. But it was not enough, you congratulate the opponent, accept it and now, one year later, we are here again. It’s just another opportunity. One day we will get to the final and win it. It didn’t happen last season as they [Madrid] know what they have to do in this competition,” he added.
