Tunisia could be barred from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to potential political meddling

Tunisia
If Tunisia‘s government meddles in football affairs, they run the possibility of being kicked out of next month’s World Cup in Qatar, according to FIFA. Following multiple remarks by Tunisia’s minister of youth and sports, Kamel Deguiche, concerning the potential for “dissolving federal bureaux,” the world governing body of football issued a warning.
According to a BBC story, Deguiche has recently urged the FTF, the nation’s football body, to reconsider kickoff times and postpone the domestic league. According to the British broadcaster, FIFA views Deguiche’s comments as an attempt to meddle in the FTF’s internal matters and has questioned the FTF about these threats to dissolve its office and attempts to interfere with its internal affairs.
Furthermore, Fifa has emphasized to the FTF that member associations are “legally obligated to conduct their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties”. “Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the imposition of penalties under the Fifa laws, including suspension of the relevant association,” stated by FIFA.
The Zurich-based organization’s member federations must be free from governmental and political intervention. Any ban would prevent Tunisian clubs or national teams from participating in any competitions on the continent or outside.
According to the BBC, Fifa gave the FTF till Friday to respond to their position in light of Deguiche’s remarks. The FTF has been in the news before, with the Tunisian team Chebba accusing it and its president, Wadie Jary, of deliberately misinforming the Court of Arbitration for Sport before the tribunal ultimately found in the club’s favor in April 2021.
