In a press conference before Manchester United‘s fixture against Turkish side, Galatasaray, Raphael Varane boldly claimed that United’s squad is good enough to compete and win the UEFA Champions League this season.
Manchester United is currently 7 games into the Premier League with 4 losses, their worst start since the League’s rebranding. Add to that, the club lost their opening UCL game against Bayern Munich in which the scoreline massively flattered United’s performance. Due to this recent string of results, fans could not believe what Varane stated in the recent UCL press conference. “This Manchester United team is good enough to win the Champions League,” the Frenchman stated showing belief in a United side that has not convinced the Old Trafford crowd this season.
The 4x Champions League winner also stated that winning the competition is all about finer details and the winner is usually the most efficient team.“That’s the reality, at the top level you have to be efficient to win the big trophies,” Varane spoke after admitting that United has been sub-par, requiring many chances to score goals and conceding too easily.
Raphael Varane believes that Galatasaray will be a good opportunity for the United team to rediscover their form as the Turkish side visit Old Trafford on the 3rd of October.
Twitter reactions to Raphael Varane’s press conference comments
Following Manchester United’s press conference with Erik ten Hag and Raphael Varane, many football fans online were in disbelief at the contents of their statements. According to Varane, Man United were good enough to win the Champions League. This led to immediate ridicule aimed at the Frenchman on X as the social media users believe, given United’s recent performances and recurring injury crisis, to make such a statement is incredible.

The player was mocked as many users also stated, “This guy thinks he’s still at Madrid.” Others called the Frenchman delusional for his belief in the club. There were hardly a handful of positive comments to his statement.
Here are some of the reactions:
Varane was part of the legendary Real Madrid team that won 3 back to back Champions League titles. Now at Man United with his former teammate Casemiro – who was also part of the threepeat – the defender and midfielder possess a wealth of experience in the coveted competition.
However, the two were surrounded by the world’s best in Madrid with the likes of Modric and Ronaldo. To win the Champions League with Manchester United, many fans believe a miracle will be required. A larger number, however, are skeptical that even a miracle won’t be enough.
