UEFA confirmed Real Madrid as finalists in a massive blooper ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg versus Manchester City. They tweeted out a poll link, confirming a final between the Spanish giants and Inter Milan.
The official UEFA account tweeted: “The finalists are confirmed and the scene is set. Answer 5 questions correctly for the chance to head to Istanbul!”, and attached a link showing a final between Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
UEFA has now deleted the tweet, and the official website now redirects the user, displaying a message stating “This campaign has not started yet.” The tweet sent fans on Twitter into a frenzy.
Some put attention on the fact that Szymon Marciniak is the referee for tonight’s game. The Polish official has refereed a game for Real Madrid in every season they have won the UEFA Champions League (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2021/22). Meanwhile, every year he hasn’t refereed Real Madrid, other teams have eliminated them. Watchers will be sure to scrutinize every refereeing decision tonight, in what promises to be an exhilarating tie.
