The USMNT locked horns with Germany in an international friendly. The hosts were confident of a win, as proclaimed by Weston McKennie. The player said, “We expect to win these games instead of just competing against the big teams.” It did look like the hosts were coming through on their promise for a greater part of the first half. Christian Pulisic‘s moment of brilliance gave early hope for the USA.
The USMNT began the game on the front foot. Constant pressure from the home side finally saw a result in the 27th minute as Christian Pulisic picked up the ball near the penalty box before dribbling into the area. He evaded his marker before unleashing a screamer.
His strike curled past Ter Stegen and into the top right corner. The goal came moments after the player missed a sitter, when he was one on one with the keeper. Pulisic’s knee slide celebration and Bellingham-esque pose captivated the home side.
The goal marks Pulisic’s 2nd goal in his last 3 games for the national side. However, his side fell eventually to the Germans. The scoreboard read 3-1 to the visitors at full-time. Following the game, Pulisic admitted that their ‘little mistakes’ in defense came back to haunt them.
USA falls to Germany despite Christian Pulisic belter
The USMNT suffered just their second defeat in the last 10 games against Germany. The side led by Captain America Christian Pulisic went ahead in the 27th minute, thanks to a splendid strike from the Cap. Pulisic’s curler gave the home side a narrow lead. However, their joy was short-lived, when Ilkay Gundogan tapped the ball into an empty net.
Niclas Füllkrug threatened the home side incessantly with his shots. His efforts finally saw result when he sent Matt Turner the wrong way. He made no mistake to find the back of the net from close range. The comeback was complete. Jamal Musiala however, was not done yet. The youngster saw the ball gracefully fall for him in front of an open net.
Following the game, Pulisic admitted that little mistakes in defense cost the team, and also clarified that the loss hurts. Moreover, he told that the team has to find ways to win in such games. He snubbed his beautiful goal, saying, “It doesn’t really mean much, now.”
