Manchester United claimed all three points, against Luton Town, at Old Trafford this evening after a scrappy goal by Victor Lindelof in the 59th minute of the game was enough to separate the two sides. This currently places United in 6th place with 21 points in the Premier League table.
In a match that began well for Manchester United, their typical season struggles continued. Despite attempts, they couldn’t score against Luton Town’s solid defense, which aimed for counter-attacks. Luton Town nearly succeeded with a header by Carlton Morris, saved by goalkeeper Andre Onana. The deadlock ended when Marcus Rashford‘s low cross led to Victor Lindelof scoring from the rebound in the 59th minute.
Manchester United’s scrappy win did not impress Erik ten Hag as he was disappointed in the team’s inability to finish off the chances that were given to them. He spoke in a post-match interview further mentioning Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho‘s squandering of opportunities in the first half of the game. The Dutch manager said:
Today we created a lot of chances but had some problems with finishing.
Erik ten Hag, however also had his share of disciplinary problems as the United manager was booked late on in the game. Accumulating three yellow cards already this season, he will face a touchline ban in Manchester United’s upcoming game against Everton.
Breaking for the next set of International football, Erik ten Hag will hope his team will take the chances they create as they face a tough set of fixtures after returning for club football in late November.
Where could Manchester United finish this season?
Before the season began, many football podcasts and media outlets had Manchester United finishing within the ‘Top 4’ after an impressive first season with Erik ten Hag. However, the mood has completely shifted as the season progressed.
United’s recent performances have had their fanbase question whether the club is capable of making the Europa League next season. Yet to make a good impression this season a certain section of fans have also started talks of ‘ten Hag out’ with many claiming he should have been sacked due to the way he ‘ousted’ Cristiano Ronaldo from the team.
With still over 26 games left in the season, ten Hag still has time to prove to the fans that he is the right man for the job but, with the current performances and the recent string of results, fans are not happy.
