Twitter blasts off as Villarreal stuns Bayern Munich after defeating them 2-1 on aggregate in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League 2021-22

Villarreal led the first leg quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Bayern Munich at the home of the Spanish side. Continuing their dream run, the Yellow Submarine has displayed an incredible game of football by beating the German champions in an aggregate result.

Robert Lewandowski gave Bayen Munich the lead, right after the second half, and equalized on aggregate. However, his goal was overshadowed by Chukwueze as he beat Manuel Neuer in the 88th minute to take Villareal past the quarter-final mark. 

Villareal players were seen in tears as they beat the Bayern Munich and have now reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the second time in their history. Unai Emery’s side dominated the game against Bayern Munich as they only had one shot on target in the entire match.

Robert Lewandowski has been a stand-out performer for Bayern Munich as he equalized the tie in the second half from Thomas Muller’s assist. He is the only player to have a shot on target in the whole match that he scored.

After pulling off a huge upset on Wednesday after defeating Bayern Munich, Villarreal will square off against either Liverpool or Benefica in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2021-22.

They are most likely to meet Jurgen Klopp’s men as the Reds currently enjoy a 3-1 advantage on aggregate over Benefica due to phenomenal strikes from Ibrahima Konate, Sadio Mane, and Luis Diaz in the first leg of the quarter-finals last week.
