Villarreal issues formal statement offering support to Alex Baena after he presses charges against Real Madrid’s Fede Valverde

Villarreal confirmed in a statement on Sunday night that the police will be involved and that could leave a way open for Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission to get involved after the assault on Alex Baena. Faced with this situation, the player has decided to file the corresponding complaint against the aggressor Federico Valverde.

Baena had indicated to local journalists that the matter would be laid to rest without any further action taken. But he changed his mind and his club has said they will back him in his decision. The Villarreal statement issued read: “Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was assaulted last night on his way to the team bus after the match against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Once again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in the version of its player and will support him throughout this process”.

The player is accused of commenting derogatory remarks about the Uruguayan’s unborn child. “Baena is affected both by the aggression and by what is said about the alleged motive for the aggression, which he claims is FALSE. Baena was unaware of Valverde’s family situation and would never mess with something like this with another footballer,” his entourage claims.

The winger had allegedly made disgusting remarks about Valverde’s wife’s condition back in January during the Copa del Rey meeting between both teams and it is said that the Villarreal star once again said something about the same in last night’s game which upset Valverde. Valverde and his partner Mina Bonino were going through a serious family problem that emerged with a post by Mina herself. Further developments are yet to take place.

Alex Baena flatly denied on social networks that he had told Fede Valverde to “cry now that your son is not going to be born”, as the Uruguayan’s entourage claims and which was the trigger for the Real Madrid player’s aggression towards the Villarreal player in the Bernabeu car park. “It is totally false that I said that,” Baena wrote on both his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Baena also made reference to Valverde’s punch although he did not name him at any point: “Very sad for the aggression I suffered after the match and surprised by what is being said about me.” “In the Copa del Rey match, Baena kicked Fede and told him, ‘Cry now that your son is not going to be born’. That stayed there, but today he said something similar and Fede got heated. That’s why he waited for him in the car park… and told him that ‘he wasn’t messing when it came to the family,” explained Valverde’s entourage.

In order to dismantle the theory of Valverde’s entourage, Baena retweeted the comment of a user in which he assures that it is totally impossible that the Villarreal player said that phrase to the Uruguayan since the Copa match was played before Mina Bonino, the Real Madrid player’s partner, revealed in an interview the problems she had suffered at the beginning of her pregnancy. It is to be seen what further developments take place.
