Villarreal’s Alex Baena slams media after being assaulted by Real Madrid’s Fede Valverde, says lies ‘hurt’ more than blows
The case has been making headlines in the football community since it first surfaced
Villareal midfielder Alex Baena hit back through a social media post on Tuesday. The 21-year-old has denied all the claims brought against him by Real Madrid star Federico Valverde. Earlier last week, Valverde assaulted the Spaniard in a car park.
In the social media post, Baena debunked the theory that he abused Valverde picking up the topic of his deceased child. He said, “Last Saturday I was attacked by a colleague at the end of the game against Real Madrid. After the event, some statements allegedly made by his entourage came to light, in which it was said that he had wished the pain of a relative. Since then, and of course, no evidence has been published to prove the facts charged against me.”
He also shifted the blame to the Uruguayan for misappropriating his misfortune to gain leverage for his wrongdoing. Baena added, “A misfortune was used to justify the aggression and there are lies that hurt more than blows.” Talking about how the incident has impacted his family and personal life, Baena said, “The damage that is being done to my family is irreparable and unjustifiable: threats, insults and even private messages wishing my family death.”
Recently, the Villareal man has lodged an official complaint against Valverde and the Los Blancos midfielder has also accepted that he was the one who punched Baena in the car park after the match on Saturday. However, he claimed that the player had mocked the death of his child during the game, which resulted in his action.

What Punishments would Valverde face?
While Valverde has received worldwide support primarily due to Real Madrid’s global fan support, it is also a fact that the allegation that he has brought against Baena is not yet proven. The midfielder, if found guilty can be handed a suspension under Article 103 or Article 130 of the Competition Committee’s code of conduct.
Under Article 130, Valverde might get handed a minimal ban of two to three matches. The article says, “If a violent action takes place away from the play, with the match stopped or no possibility of challenging for the ball, the player will be suspended for two to three matches.”
However, Article 103, which might be held against the Uruguayan, states, “Attacking another player, without causing injury […] while the match is stopped or at such a distance from the ball that it cannot represent an intervention in the play, will be penalised with a suspension of four to 12 games.”
