However, the match ended with a 3-2 score in favor of the home side, owing to a few faulty refereeing decisions, that raised concerns. Despite the win briefly propelling Real to the top of the table, Girona later surpassed them.

Referees and VAR disallowed Almeria midfielder Sergio Arribas’ goal for a minor foul on Jude Bellingham. Conversely, VAR allowed Vinicius’ equalizing goal in the 67th minute, despite an apparent handball. Madrid’s second goal sparked controversy, as Vinicius appeared to use his upper arm to guide the ball into the net.

Initially disallowed by the on-field referee, the goal was later approved by video officials. A similar handball decision went in favor of the home side after Almeria defender Kaiky‘s handball, resulting in a penalty goal by Bellingham.
