Vinicius Jr. labels Real Madrid’s 4-0 Copa del Rey victory over Barcelona as ‘Remontada’

Vinicius Jr captioned on Instagram about the team’s success after destroying Barcelona 4-0 on Wednesday progressing to the finals of the Copa del Rey after a wait of nine years. He praised Real Madrid after coming back from a one-goal deficit in the first leg and turnaround the result in which he contributed himself with a goal and an assist.

He posted, “Remontada y Final = REAL MADRID “, which translates to “Comeback and final = Real Madrid”. Los Blancos do have a history of comebacks most recently during the 2021-22 season where they turned a 4-3 deficit in the first leg into a 3-1 in the second leg against Manchester City in the UCL semifinals winning 6-5 on an aggregate and eventually marched on for Champions League triumph.

They achieved a similar feat after beating Barcelona overturning a slender margin. In both comebacks, the Brazilian played a pivotal role in either scoring or providing assists. They now have the chance for a double in the Spanish competition and the Champions League after being underwhelming otherwise being 12 points off first place, their worst tally since the 2018-19 season.

Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho was one of the first to comment, with him claiming that it was not unnatural for the Whites to record a comeback win. He commented, “Normal”. Real Madrid will face Villarreal next in La Liga on Sunday followed by UCL quarters against Chelsea and the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on May 6 where they still have hopes of silverware.

A look at Vini Jr season so far in La Liga

Vinicius Junior has been undoubtedly one of the best performers of Real Madrid and an undisputed starter. His effectiveness is implied after Los Blancos recent thrashing of rivals Barcelona where he contributed a goal and an assist. He has filled the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo on the left flank and is progressing furthermore.

The Brazilian had a breakout year last season scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 35 matches which saw him win a domestic double and the Champions League. The player improved drastically after a disastrous spell in the previous season scoring and assisting 3 goals in the same number of matches. His explosive speed and effective finishing make the player a nightmare for opposition defences.

While he has slowed down a bit this season scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 26 matches, he still remains an integral part of the squad. Xavi has offered high praise to the youngster, comparing him with fellow countryman Neymar Jr both with similar playing styles. He even featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
