Vinicius Jr. has been making headlines on social media following his recent breakdown during a press conference. The Real Madrid star and Brazilian winger captained his side against Spain in an exhilarating 3-3 draw. The friendly was intended to promote anti-racism. Even though Vinicius’ performance in the match was below expectations, the player was ‘disappointed’ for other reasons.
Ahead of the game, Vinicius Jr. posed with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams as the players promoted ‘One Identity’ and ‘One Skin’. In a show of unity, the Brazilian squad walked out of the tunnel with the mottos printed on their jackets. However, as reported by The Athletic following the game, Vinicius expressed his disappointment at the RFEF and Brazilian football confederation choosing not to give the match profits to charity.
It is understood that both the RFEF and CBF earned €5 million from the match proceedings. The player has been a vocal proponent in the fight against racism while also championing education for the underprivileged in Brazil.
He was recently appointed as a UNESCO goodwill ambassador by UNESCO Director General, Audrey Azoulay. The 23-year-old earns 20.83 million euros per year and is the fourth highest earner at the club.

Vinicius Jr. broke down in a press conference ahead of the game vs Spain. Clips of the teary-eyed player went viral on social media as fans and players sympathized with the 23-year-old. Many fans blamed La Liga and the lackadaisical approach by management towards complaints made by players. However, an incident during the same shifted the argument against the Brazilian.
Vinicius Jr. broke down during the press conference, stating that he just wanted to ‘play football’. Following the international break, the player will now return to Real Madrid, as they prepare to take on Athletic Club and then Manchester City in the Champions League.
