“Wasn’t easy to change things”- Saul Niguez bids farewell to Chelsea after a devastating spell at Premier League

Saul Niguez will be eternally thankful to Chelsea fans for their support throughout his loan from Atletico Madrid, but the Spaniard believes it was his teammates who helped him “not fall apart” during his difficult first months at Stamford Bridge.

Saul signed a loan deal with the Blues in the last moments of last summer’s transfer window, with a £30 million option to make the move permanent. It was a move that was lauded by fans and supported by the club. Marina Granovskaia, the club’s director, said, “He completes our roster as we strive for honors in five different tournaments this season.”

Saul’s Chelsea debut, though, against Aston Villa, lasted only 45 minutes. Thomas Tuchel took the Spaniard off at halftime as he toiled with the intensity and tempo of the Premier League. “He was suffering, and I accept responsibility for it,” the ex PSG manager stated.

Saul didn’t start to feel at ease at Chelsea until late December. Tuchel commented favorably about the 27-year-growth old’s following an outstanding cameo away at Wolverhampton Wanderers and a fantastic performance in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg triumph against Tottenham Hotspur.

“I got the idea he processed the experiences in the start when maybe he didn’t anticipate it to be like this,” the Chelsea manager remarked.

However, despite N’Golo Kante and Jorginho being off of the form, Saul was seldom utilized in midfield for the remainder of the season. In his favorite role, he only started four games, one of which was a victory over Watford on the penultimate day of the Premier League season.

Saul has only played 1,209 minutes in all competitions, so it’s no shock that the Blues have decided not to exercise their £30 million option. He will rejoin Atletico Madrid ahead of next season, giving the midfielder another chance to revive his career. Despite his early difficulties, he feels his stay at Chelsea will be helpful.

According to a message shared on Saul’s social media accounts: “Good day, blues! I’m writing to bid you farewell. I’d want to share my feelings about this journey with you. Things didn’t get off to a good start. It wasn’t easy to change things after spending so much time at home. Things began to improve gradually.

“Thank you to all of my admirers who have stuck by me through thick and thin. I’ll be eternally thankful. Thank you to the entire crew for allowing me to win titles while wearing the blue jersey.

“Above all, I wanted to express my gratitude to my teammates. They were crucial in preventing me from collapsing. They assisted me in continuing to support the team and maintaining a calm and optimistic attitude on a daily basis. Thank you very much.”
