Around 20,000 boisterous spectators cheered on Brazilian sensation Marcelo as he arrived at Olympiacos on Monday. After arriving by private aircraft at Athens International Airport in the late afternoon with his wife and two sons.
Marcelo was met there by the club’s director, Christian Karembeu. He approached the field donning the same No. 12 that he had been sporting for 16 years at Real Madrid. Between 2006 and 2018, the 34-year-old made 58 appearances for Brazil, playing in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. Olympiacos, champions of the last three Greek Super leagues, is vying for a record-breaking 48th championship this year.
It was interesting to see where the full back would choose because he had only ever played for his childhood team Fluminense and then Los Blancos. Olympiacos is usually a surprising choice. He has gradually fallen down the La Liga hierarchy due to his deteriorating physicality, but he should rise to prominence once again in the Greek League thanks to his exceptional technical abilities.

Marcelo ranks high among all-time great left backs
During his career at Real, he won five Champions League championships, six La Liga championships, and two Copa Del Rey, solidifying his status as a club legend.
After having to make due with a spot on the bench at Real Madrid recently due to Ferland Mendy’s presence, Marcelo will be eager to get to work at Olympiacos. For the sake of his career, he had to leave Los Blancos, but it didn’t stop him from saying goodbye in a very emotional way after winning his fifth Champions League.
“I walk out of here with my head held high. My family is very proud of me,” Marcelo said in tears at a ceremony held by Real Madrid to celebrate his career.
“I feel very fortunate, everything I have had in my life has been with work, but I have been lucky with the people I have had by my side. Thank you very much to you all.
“This is not a goodbye; I do not feel that I am leaving Real Madrid. The club’s future is secure with promising young talent, and in that I include my son, who is playing well in the academy. I arrived as a child, and I leave as a man.”
