Barcelona fans were chanting “Messi, Messi” in the tenth minute of tonight’s El Clasico. According to reports, Barcelona want to bring back Lionel Messi to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain decided to part ways after a breakdown in contract negotiations. The two parties have been in talks since the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, disagreements regarding sporting promises mean that a solution is unlikely, and Messi will leave Paris in the summer. Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal have already made an offer for the Argentine, which includes a salary of $438 million (€400 million).
PSG fans have booed Messi on multiple occasions this season. According to sources, fans of the club feel that Lionel failed to do what was required of him in the Champions League and hold him responsible for the Parisian club’s poor showing in the competition. French media outlets suggest that Messi would prefer to return to Barcelona in the summer since it would be convenient for him and his family.
Barcelona are also keen on the reunion. Sources say discussions are currently placed among club officials regarding the matter. Messi is willing to take a pay cut, and Barcelona are thinking of creative ways to fund his return. However, they are awaiting clarification on their Financial Fair Play issues before they make an offer. As seen by the chants at Camp Nou, Barca fans will be hoping for a special reunion with their club legend.

Messi’s return to Barcelona heating up
Barcelona has been open about its desire to bring Messi back to Catalonia. Last week, Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste admitted that the club is ‘in contact’ with the forward and his entourage.
“Leo and his family know the affection I have for them,” he said to journalists. “I participated in the negotiations that unfortunately did not lead to success. I’m gutted that Leo could not continue at out club. If you talk about La Masia, you talk about Messi.”
Sources have confirmed that Jorge Messi will fly to Barcelona within the next week to continue discussing a free transfer back to Camp Nou two years after his 21-year association with the club came to an emotional and dramatic end.
