WATCH: Football game in Chile’s league gets suspended after crowd injures match official via fireworks
Chile's football violence erupts yet again.

Players exited the pitch as a flare thrown by the football fans burned on the field during a match of Universidad de Chile against Universidad Catolica for the local tournament at the Ester Roa stadium in Concepcion, Chile on Sunday. The match was suspended after fans launched fireworks and flares onto the field.
The fireworks thrown from the crowd hit a match official and a cameraman and authorities say several people were injured. To guarantee the safety of the attendees, it was decided to suspend the match. The games between these local rivals are always deemed feisty as such similar incidents were reported in the past. There were several incidents of bad behavior from the fans.
One such incident was when Universidad de Chile goalkeeper Martin Parra sustained damage to his ear and is recovering in hospital after being struck by fireworks while playing against the same opposition. The incident occurred immediately after Catolica had scored in the quarter-final second leg to level the tie at 1-1 and the referee stopped the game with only four minutes played.
U de Chile demanded that the football federation give Catolica the “harshest punishment” as the game was originally supposed to be played without fans. Police said they had detained two people from the stadium after the incident. The current investigations are ongoing and we might see a similar story after the culprits are found.
Some of Football’s Most Violent on-Pitch Incidents Ever

Football is referred to affectionately by millions all over the world as “the beautiful game.” But over the course of its history, it has shown a dark side as well. Many of the world’s biggest football clubs are known to have fan bases packed with thugs and hooligans, and these fan bases have brought about terrible moments in the history of the game.
Francesco Totti on Mario Balotelli was full of malice. With Roma losing to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia, Totti decided he’d had enough of the game and decided to get himself off the pitch as soon as possible by taking the strong kick he could to the back of Balotelli’s legs. Later, Totti would clarify his attack by noting that Balotelli had said some things about him and the city of Rome that he did not appreciate. He did apologize though, and luckily Balotelli emerged from the attack uninjured.
Zinedine Zidane v Marco Materazzi didn’t cause much physical damage, but it remains one of the most controversial incidents in the history of football. With France and Italy tied 1-1 in the second half of extra time of the World Cup Final, Zinedine Zidane inexplicably lost his cool and served up one of the meanest headbutts, right into Marco Materazzi’s chest. Unfortunately, Materazzi would be the only one with the last laugh as his team would go on to win the World Cup on penalties.
