Iranian couple attacked at the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Iran and USA faced off in one of the most Politically sensitive matches in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The group decider saw the Americans coming off victorious with a 1-0 scoreline, securing them the Round of 16 entry. The Iranian fans at the match took the opportunity to protest against the laws curbing women in the country while cheering for their national side.
After the match, a video surfaced online showing a few protesters allegedly getting attacked. The viral video clip shows a couple screaming for help. They were wearing “Women’s life freedom” shirts. The couple is seemingly scared and is calling for authorities to listen.
The video even shows them requesting the people gathered around to ‘not leave them alone and that they cannot trust the rules anymore. The couple screamed with fearful stitched voices indicating the armed forces present to protect them were also a part of the group who attacked them.
Iran has been continuously shifting between football and other agendas; every match with Iran has some controversial highlights. The sensitivity issue that has been going around for more than a year is not catching up with everybody around them. The women chasing their freedom are denied their basic fundamental rights in the country.

Real Madrid’s ace midfielder and the German national Toni Kroos and the Colombian singer and Gerard Pique’s ex-partner Shakira were among the many celebrities to come forward presenting their words of power for the people protesting for the women’s rights in Iran and for the terrible situation that they are currently suffering under.
The words have carried encouragement and support extended from afar. “I join you to say: Women, life, freedom!” Said the Los Blancos’ talisman. The Colombian took to her Twitter account and said, “My heart is with Mahsa Amini’s family,” sending her condolences on her death under suspicious circumstances and further extending her support to her fellow Iranian protesters for their stand on Freedom of Expression.
The protesters began ranting with the anti-Islamic protest to restore their trust and faith in the religion by burning down ‘hijabs’ and marching out demonstrations. The issue became big in Iran and other parts of the world, gaining support from the rest of the world’s celebrities.
