Lionel Messi made his official debut as an Inter Miami player on Friday, July 16, at the DRV PNK stadium. The Argentine superstar was greeted by a huge crowd of fans who came to witness his historic arrival. But Messi also had a playful moment with his son Thiago, who showed off his skills by nutmegging his dad.

As David Beckham and Jorge Mas presented him with his new No. 10 jersey, Messi took a stroll around the DRV PNK Stadium to thank the fans for their warm welcome. But his son Thiago had other plans. He grabbed a ball and tried to nutmeg his dad, who was distracted by the crowd.

Thiago lifted his arms in joy after narrowly succeeding in his nutmeg try. The 10-year-old received applause from the audience as his father laughed at the gesture. The younger Messi imitated his father’s style of play by making a move that his father used often.

Messi’s debut for Miami is set for July 21, when they will face Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup. The team is counting on the superstar to turn their season around, as they had a messy start to the season. Messi will have to prove his worth and lead his teammates to the playoffs, something he has done many times before in his illustrious career.

Messi expects his USA adventure to be a great time. In his recent unveiling, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner told the supporters about his expectations at Miami. The superstar started his speech by thanking the key players behind his move.

“I’m very excited, very happy to be here in Miami with you. I want to thank Jorge [Mas], Jose [Mas], David [Beckham], and his family for their welcome and the kindness they’ve shown these days. They’ve made us feel at home so quickly, they made it so easy. It’s been spectacular for us since we got here.”

Messi then added how he and the team will help fulfill the supporters’ expectations and will have a great time in Miami. “Personally, I have no doubts my teammates and I will always give our best to try to achieve all of our goals. I’m very happy to have chosen to come to this city with my family. I have no doubts we’re going to enjoy this, and we’re going to have a good time, and, well, a lot of beautiful things are going to happen.”
