WATCH: Lionel Messi’s wholesome reaction to PSG fans chanting his name during 4-0 win against Nantes
Leo Messi for Paris
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is regarded as one of the greatest players to ever lace up a pair of boots and he has millions of fans worldwide. Since Lionel Messi is now 34 and nearing the end of his career, his admirers are eager to show their support whenever they have the opportunity to see him play.
Everywhere the former Barcelona icon and current Paris Saint-Germain star goes, he is trailed by adoring supporters, many of whom credit Messi with inspiring their passion for the game. Messi, on one hand, isn’t a fan of the spotlight of the celebrity world, unlike his bitter rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi was getting ready to take a corner during PSG’s 4-0 victory over Nantes in the Trophee des Champions last month when he glanced into the crowd. Thousands of people then began chanting “Messi, Messi!” inside Bloomfield Stadium in Israel, and it was obvious that this moved him.
Before taking the corner, Messi rearranged his hair, grinned, and waved to the crowd. He then turned to face the crowd once more and continued to savour the moment for a short while.
New PSG boss Christophe Galtier believes Lionel Messi will ‘explode’ this season in Parisian colours
Lionel Messi won the Ligue 1 championship despite only scoring six goals in his debut season at PSG. He scored twice in Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Clermont Foot, continuing his impressive start to the season. The Argentina international scored PSG’s fifth goal and his second with an exquisite bicycle kick. Messi will reportedly remind everyone of his abilities this year, according to PSG manager Christophe Galtier.
“I talked to Leo during our stay in Japan, and with the defensive sector too to try and ensure that he can perform to the best of his abilities all the time,” he told Ligue 1’s official website.
“He is very sharp, very clear tactically. He sees very quickly where he has to be, the way he has to position himself to play. He’s in a zone he likes. He likes playing with players around him. When Leo smiles, the team smiles too.”
