Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final on 28th May to win their record-breaking 14th European Cup. As was expected, all players were ecstatic after the game, and they showed that as well. They took to the fields to celebrate and they certainly looked very happy.

2 players though, who were particularly happy were Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Why wouldn’t they be? They had just won the 5th UCL of their careers and they did that by playing a huge part in the first team.

Toni Kroos had arrived from Bayern Munich in 2013 for 35 million pounds from Bayern Munich. He had been a world-class prospect at Bayern Munich and even when he was on loan at Leverkusen.

When he came to Real, there was a lot of optimism that he would be amazing. He did exactly that. He has become the staple deep-lying playmaker for Real Madrid and his passing accuracy is still as good as the day he was signed. It is better, if I may say so.

Luka Modric, on the other hand, came from Tottenham Hotspurs in 2012 for 29 million pounds. He was 25 at the time. He was expected to be a rotation that the club would move on from in 4-5 years.

However, boy has he proved everyone wrong. He came to Madrid, became an essential part of their midfield trio, and won a Ballon d’Or on the way. Just like that. Casually. He still is an important part of the starting XI even though Madrid signed his replacement in the form of Eduardo Camavinga. But he was still too young to take Modric’s mantle away from him.

Together, they have 5 Champions Leagues and 4 La Liga titles and it looks like they aren’t stopping anytime soon.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool Champions League 2021/22 Final- As it Happened

Vinicius Jr. made the difference in the final against Liverpool as Klopp’s men tried harder and harder but couldn’t find a way to the goal as Courtois made some great saves to deny Liverpool’s strikers. In the first half, a controversial goal was disallowed from Benzema as he was found offside but to many fans, it seemed onside. Had the goal stood, it would have added to Benzema’s fifteen goals this season.

Liverpool had the most attempts as the strikers dominated the game but Real Madrid’s defenders were absolutely phenomenal in their role after making more than four times the attempts made by the Los Blancos.

Madrid didn’t have many chances but they capitalize on their chances and scored from the very few opportunities they have created. Real Madrid goes on to win their 14th title as they remain unbeaten in their last eight champions league finals.
