Erik ten Hag recreates the iconic Ajax dance with Antony and Lisandro Martinez
Two teams chasing their former glory, Manchester United, took on Newcastle United in the final of the English League Cup at Wembley. The Red Devils came out victorious in the electrifying game thanks to the first-half goal scored by Casemiro and the own goal forced in by Marcus Rashford. The victory earned United their file trophy since the 2017 Europa League and the first trophy in the Erik ten Hag era. Newcastle’s trophy drought since 1952 continues.
After the emphatic win, Man United’s Dutch mastermind Ten Hag celebrated with his South American warriors Antony and Lisandro Martinez. The Brazilian and Argentine danced together while carrying their respective national flags and were joined by their boss, who showed his dance skills before embracing his players. The trio was together at ajax before the move to Old Trafford.
The Reds dominated most of the game at Wembley though they had Newcastle had the upper hand in terms of ball position. The solid defensive display from the midfield and defensive line made the difference, Newcastle enjoyed 61% ball possession and had 80% pass accuracy compared to United’s 66%. But the back and white stripes kept just 2 of their 15 shots on target while Rashford and co had 9 out of the 14 on goal.
The superior defense from united against the one-on-one expert Miguel Almiron and Allen saint-Maximin was enough to curtail their attacking output and crosses from the wings. United had 30 Tackles, 12 interceptions, and 22 Clearance in the game. Each one played a major role in deciding the game’s fate. United attempts on goal from outside the boxes teased Loris Karius, who made his first professional appearance in 782 days, while Newcastle could never do the same against De Gea.

Manchester United was the only team still fighting for the treble in the Premier League, and they now have three more trophies to get. Boss ten Hag understands that and points out that the EFL Cup win is just the start of restoring the Club’s original glory. He said, “I think we are still at the start of restoring Manchester United to where it belongs”
Captain Bruno Fernandes also has the same attitude after the win. He said, “We have been searching for this moment…I am satisfied now because I got my trophy but I want more,”. The Europa League win last Thursday against Barcelona has doubled the team’s confidence, and their chase for domestic and continental glory has just begun.
