England star Mason Mount is one of the top talents that have been produced in recent years through Chelsea Academy. The player is known for his moves on the pitch. But a few years back he went viral after posting a video where he recreated his footballing idol’s move.
Mount during his academy days, posted a video where he was trying to recreate Cristiano Ronaldo‘s iconic knuckleball freekick. He was reportedly heavily influenced by the Portuguese striker’s goal against Arsenal at the Old Trafford.
Chelsea, back then, shared a video of their academy graduate Mount practicing free kick. This was after he scored a free-kick against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of the 2019/20 season.
In the video young Mount could be heard describing what he was doing in the video. He said, “I try to base my free-kicks on Ronaldo. Hit the ball by the valve and it moves. That’s all you do. Top corner, top bins.”
The young lad went on to replicate a freekick with similar ease. The ball, in typical knuckleball fashion, moved and went into the top corner with the goalkeeper completely bamboozled. Mount, although, does not always feature in free-kick duties for Chelsea, does possess a vicious right foot.
