WATCH: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seen feeling ‘uneasy’ after Robert Lewandowski’s arrival at Barcelona
Barcelona’s refusal to admit they are in a financial crisis continued on Sunday night when they confirmed the arrival of Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski joined from Bayern Munich in a €50 million deal after expressing his desire to leave the Bundesliga champions after eight successful years.
“Finally I am here and I am very happy to join Barcelona. The last few days were very long days but in the end the deal was done so now I am going to focus on a new chapter in my life and a new challenge,” he said while posing for photos at Miami Beach.
“I always wanted to play in LaLiga, I always wanted to play for the biggest clubs. It is the next step. Also for my private life, it was a new challenge. I know that it’s time to get Barcelona back on track and I am here to help them get back to the top and to winning as many titles as possible.”
After completing his media duties, Lewandowski went to meet his new teammates and have dinner, but one player, according to some Barcelona fans, didn’t seem too excited to see their newest addition.
Despite the fact that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang only joined the Catalan giants in January and quickly established himself as the first-choice striker, it is widely expected that their new marquee signing will be the first name on the teamsheet, and supporters noticed his reaction to the Pole’s first interaction with the squad.
Lewandowski is widely expected to become the first-choice striker under Xavi and Aubaeyang didn’t appear to be too happy with the increased competition for places.
Could Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang play together at Barcelona?
The Poland international, who scored an incredible 344 goals in 375 matches during his time with Bayern, was unveiled by Barcelona on Monday in Miami, Florida and is poised to sign a four-year deal once the transfer has been finalised after posing for photographs and videos at a lifeguard station on a beach in the city.
A later video showed the pair shaking hands and hugging, implying Aubameyang was not as concerned about Lewandowski’s arrival as it appeared. Last season, Aubameyang impressed for Barcelona, scoring 13 goals in 23 games across all competitions, but he now faces stiff competition from Lewandowski, who has vowed to help the club challenge for major honours this season.
Lewandowski could make his Barcelona debut when they play David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the first match of their United States tour on Tuesday.
