WATCH: Punches thrown at LSU-Ole Miss women’s football game with 3 red cards being shown

During Sunday’s first-round match between Ole Miss and LSU in the SEC women’s soccer tournament, punches were thrown by both sets of players. The Tigers’ Maya Gordon was matched at the ball by the Rebels’ Ramsey Davis on the opposite sideline in the 104th minute of the game, which had not yet seen a goal scored.

Things rapidly heated up, and fighting broke out as Gordon attempted to block Davis from the ball. Either bench rushed onto the field to break up the fight when both players started throwing fists at one another. Rammie Noel of the Tigers dragged Davis to the ground while defending her teammate before having to be separated from Davis as well.

The referee issued red cards to all three of the involved players, who were therefore dismissed from the game. The game would ultimately come down to penalties, where the No. 10-seeded Rebels would prevail and advance further in the competition while the No. 7 Tigers would be eliminated.

The quarterfinal matchup between the Rebels and No. 2 South Carolina will now take place on Tuesday. But Davis, who must serve a one-game suspension, won’t be there. When the Tigers play again on November 11, Gordon and Noel also won’t be eligible to start NCAA action.

On their home field, LSU defeated Ole Miss this past Thursday, 4-1. However, Ashley Orkus of Ole Miss, the SEC goalie of the year, made the crucial stops to help her team win the most recent matchup in this rivalry.
