Inter Milan fans greeted Romelu Lukaku with open arms, despite the club’s ultra group publicly opposing his return to the San Siro. Given the outpouring of rage from some Inter fans when the loan deal was confirmed, there was little chance of an awkward reunion.

Lukaku was taken to the Italian Olympic Committee upon arrival, which is in charge of all sports management in the country. A large crowd gathered outside the stadium to cheer Lukaku and celebrate his return to the club a year after he left. As they did so, Lukaku found a window and leaned out to greet the fans of his new club.

Given the statement issued by Curva Nord last week, it could have been a much more awkward welcome for the striker. They are Inter’s ultras, and they have warned Lukaku that he will not be welcomed as a hero.

“We invite all Inter fans not to fall into the opposite trap, that of running immediately and drooling after him. We are not gentlemen at the mercy of the moves of players and clubs. We took note of Lukaku’s betrayal and we were very upset. To a footballer, these things can be forgiven over time, but they remain,” their statement read.

Lukaku found the back of the net 64 times in 95 games during his first spell with Inter, winning the Serie A title last year before signing for Chelsea for a second time. The Belgium striker only scored eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances for the London club in the 2021-22 campaign.

Romelu Lukaku can’t wait to get starting at Inter Milan AGAIN

Lukaku wants to stay at Inter Milan

Romelu Lukaku declared “it’s like coming home” after he returned to Inter from Chelsea on Wednesday. The 29-year-old, who has picked 90 as his new shirt number, had made no secret of his desire to play for Inter again and feels he is back where he belongs.

He told the club’s official website, “It’s like coming home. My family and I were so happy here thanks to the people, the fans, and my teammates. From the first day I arrived here, everyone helped me settle in.

“I’m very happy. I kept my home here when I went to England, so that means something. I’m pleased to be back and now I can’t wait to get out there with my teammates.”
