The United States and Canada battled it out in the Gold Cup quarterfinals. After a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, the United States defeated Canada 3-2 on penalties. The game was unusually passionate, and the fervor extended off the field.

The USMNT reportedly taunted Canada’s players after the final whistle. This insult sparked a fight in the locker room. It is unclear if CONCACAF will take action and penalize those implicated. None of the stars of the teams like Christian Pulisic and Alphonso Davies were present to play the finals.

The players were shown becoming furious after going off the field in a video that has since gone viral. The cameras in the locker rooms saw the players becoming aggressive with one another. After US goalie Matt Turner saved two penalties to deny Canada the victory, the US players taunted the Canadians leading to the altercation.

It was the United States’ second competitive triumph against Canada this summer, after their 2-0 victory in the Nations League final last month. In the semifinals in San Diego, the Americans will face Panama, who defeated Qatar 4-0 on Saturday.

During the USMNT’s CONCACAF Gold Cup match versus Canada, an assistant referee was compelled to depart the pitch. During the dramatic quarterfinal game, Christian Espinosa was left bleeding from the head. He was barely able to complete one minute of activity.

The hit was delivered by Canada’s Kamal Miller, who sought to clear the ball after a challenge from USMNT midfielder Gianluca Busio. Miller was able to win the tackle with the goal of clearing the ball from play and into the stands. Instead, the ball smacked Espinosa in the face, sending him to fall to the ground.

The linesman needed to leave the pitch as blood was spotted flowing from his head, requiring quick medical treatment. On-field referee Marco Ortiz then momentarily suspended the game. Jenny Taft, a Fox Sports reporter, said after the event,”Good news, he’s gonna be okay!”
