Gianluigi Buffon retired from the beautiful game Tuesday. In the wake of his retirement, let’s have a look at a time when the ‘Goatkeeper’ got ‘really frustrated.’ The reason for his frustration and anger was none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the 2017/18 Champions League quarter-finals, Real Madrid faced off against Juventus. Real beat Juve, 3-0. However, the highlight of the game was a bicycle kick by Cristiano Ronaldo, that stunned all of the people in the Allianz Stadium that night. Gianluigi Buffon highlighted that the goal frustrated him initially.

“After about 25 seconds of normal frustration over the goal I conceded, I thought about what he had done to me, something really great,” Buffon said. He proceeded to ask Cristiano about his age. Cristiano cheekily replied that his goal was not bad for a 33-year-old.

Both of them then were able to laugh off the whole conversation. The duo then even got a chance to play together as Ronaldo moved to Juventus in 2018 and Buffon rejoined the Old Lady in 2019 when they both played together. Gianluigi defined knowing Ronaldo as an absolute pleasure.

“We made a mess, mentally. Probably the biggest regret of my career. We were very strong, a mega team.” These were the words of Buffon. PSG was one of the favorites to win the Champions League that year. A title that Buffon could never get his hands on. The legend now retires and thus believes 2018 was the best chance to win it, but was fumbled by him and PSG.
