According to reports, Wayne Rooney has decided to rejoin DC United as their new manager. The 36-year-old is presently unemployed after resigning as Derby’s manager last month as a result of their promotion to League One.
But after landing in the States, he is now prepared to make a quick comeback to management. Following the MLS team’s decision to release Hernan Losada, SunSport recently revealed that the legendary member of Manchester United was being lined up.
Pablo Iglesias Maurer of the Athletic has since released a picture of Rooney in the United States before announcing his new position. Nevertheless, he stressed that Rooney won’t be made public until he obtains the requisite visa.
Wayne Rooney returns to coaching with DC United:
And that won’t be enough for him to take over for the upcoming match between United and Columbus Crew.
He wrote on Twitter: “Multiple sources tell me tonight that DC United and Wayne Rooney have reached an agreement. Rooney, who was a standout performer for the team, will be the new manager.”
“Of course, until Rooney’s Visa situation is resolved, he won’t coach. I have no idea how long it will take, but Wednesday will not be the day.”
Rooney joined DC in 2018 and stayed there for two years, from 2018 to 2020. Over the course of his two seasons, he participated in 52 games across all competitions, scoring 25 goals. He was then hired by Derby in January 2020 to serve as a player coach before being named the club’s permanent coach a year later.
In the weeks following the “Wagatha Christie” trial with Rebekah Vardy, Rooney and Coleen went on vacation to Dubai and Ibiza. As soon as Derby scheduled a preseason friendly with Leicester, he was destined for an unpleasant reunion with his former England teammate Jamie.
