Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was recently sacked by EFL Championship team Birmingham City. News of his dismissal came as a shock to the footballing community and Rooney’s son, Kai Rooney was no different. Videos circulating on social media show Kai having a go at Birmingham City players in an Instagram conversation.

Wayne Rooney was dismissed from his position just 83 days after taking charge of the club. Even though he parted ways with the club on good terms, he himself said that he required ‘more time’. In spite of a ‘disastrous’ track record at the club, Rooney’s eldest son Kai, believes otherwise. In a screen-recorded snippet of a conversation on Instagram, the 14-year-old shifted the majority of the blame to the players.

The leaked chats read “the players are dogsh*te” and that “my dad had 12 players coming in including 5 Premier League players“. In another voice note sent by Kai, he tore into the club keeper and centre-backs, and referred to them as ‘overrated’ and ‘awful’.

However, Kai did admit that his father didn’t do the best job at the club. Despite his admission, the video ends with a sour taste in his mouth, as he criticized the management for giving just 13 weeks to Rooney before deciding to sack him.

Rooney at Birmingham City – what went wrong?

Birmingham City were a team on the rise back in October when club management felt that it would be a good decision to appoint Wayne Rooney as club manager. The club were in sixth position and a Premier League qualification run was definitely on the table. However, fast-forward 83 days, the club are 20th in the EFL Championship, just 10 points above bottom-placed Rotherham.

Even though Wayne Rooney’s limitations as a manager played a big role in their ‘downfall’, an equal amount of the blame can be put on the club management and NFL superstar Tom Brady. The latter became a minority owner of the club several months ago. The club, which was flourishing under the guidance of then-head coach John Eustace, was taken away from his hands by the management in an abrupt decision.

The Manchester United legend took over from a manager who led the club to their highest points total in over 7 seasons. More impressively, Eustace did so as the club was in turmoil during the takeover. His side only managed 0.6 points per game after his takeover, as he managed to win just 2 games from the 15 he was in charge of. In short, the series of unfortunate events, though unforeseen, were well in their control to have steered away from.
