Atletico Madrid Head coach Diego Simeone gave credit where it’s due after losing 1-0 to Manchester city in the first leg of the Quarterfinals in the Champions League and admits being astonished at the Spaniard’s tactics
In his own words, “we are facing an extraordinary team, they play in a dynamic way with a lot of players in the attack plaing in a collective way which is nice to watch and coordinated”.
He continued, “Just when we looked like creating our best opportunities, they scored. That was a very difficult match. They take off three excellent players and replace them with three equally- excellent guys.”
Pep Guardiola made a strategic triple substitution bringing on Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus, and Jack Grealish which ultimately lead to the only goal scored in the match courtesy of a Phil Foden assist to Kevin De Bruyne
The Uruguayan international had this to say about the English youngster, “I must admit we thought Foden would start. I’d also confess that it’s enjoyable to see how City plays. The patience they have. But we were both seeking the same thing, winning.”
Atletico Madrid is the first team since APOEL Nicosia to not register a shot in the Champions League match, they would surely want to avoid that in the next Leg of the Quarterflinals
