“We are here for a meal”- Chelsea Owner Todd Boehly not eager to explain anything about Frenkie de Jong or Cesar Azpilicueta after arriving in Barcelona
Owner of Chelsea Todd Boehly has scheduled a meeting with representatives of Barcelona to talk about the prospective departures of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali were recently seen arriving at the Barcelona airport for negotiations with Barcelona over Alonso, Azpilicueta, and a number of other issues. According to sources, De Jong and Sergino Dest are also expected to come up during these talks.
Both parties’ transfer business has collided this summer in terms of both arriving and exiting players, and they are now meeting face to face for in-person negotiations in Spain.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly in Barcelona to discuss transfers?
Spanish media house Jijantes captured Boehly, 48, leaving the Barcelona airport while giggling over questions about prospective transfers, particularly for Dutch footballer De Jong.
In a later COPE video, Boehly can be seen entering a restaurant and responding casually when asked about transfer talks, “We’re here to enjoy a meal.” Joan Laporta, the club president of Barcelona, and Jordi Cruyff and Mateu Alemany were the next to enter the upscale Via Veneto restaurant in the heart of the city.
Later that evening, Boehly departed the discussions in a positive mood, telling media, “Great lunch, nice food.” According to a report in the Spanish media, he claimed to have achieved an understanding with the Spanish club during the negotiations.
According to football.london, Marcos Alonso will be permitted to leave the team this summer since Chelsea are willing to trade the Spaniard. Following Boehly’s £4.25 billion purchase of the team, discussions with Barcelona for the Spanish two have halted, and Azpilicueta is also willing to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Antonio Rudiger, Romelu Lukaku, and Andreas Christensen have already left the Blues, with the Danish defender joining Barca on a free transfer. Despite the continued financial problems at Camp Nou, Azpilicueta and Alonso have also been associated with transfers to the Spanish giants.
