“Major Leeds Soccer”- Fans react as Weston McKennie move to Premier League club Leeds United
Leeds United want to complete the move for Weston McKennie "as soon as possible," with the American having already agreed on personal terms.
Leeds United and Juventus have agreed to bring Weston McKennie to the English Premier League. He will work with USMNT captain Tyler Adams, American teammate Brenden Aaronson, and American manager Jesse Marsch. On Sunday, there will be a medical which is pending. Leeds can make a move permanently this summer as part of an initial loan agreement.
McKennie played 29 times for the Italian juggernauts in a season marred by injuries last year. This season, he has started 18 of his 21 games scoring three goals and providing two assists. Nevertheless, the Turin-based club is now looking to sell several players to help balance their books after Juventus was penalized 15 points in Serie A last week for financial irregularities. McKennie is thought to be one name they are prepared to let go of permanently.
Leeds is presently 15th of 20 Premier League teams, with four victories in 19 games, just one point above the relegation zone. After the EPL season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the second-tier Championship. If McKenna’s move had been a permanent transfer, three prominent USMNT players would have been in danger of spending their prime years together in a second division of English football.
All four played significant midfield roles for the United States in four World Cup games in 2022. McKennie and Adams started all four matches, while Aaronson was one of the tournament’s first players off the bench. Leeds has made inroads into the American market since the appointment of Marsch, with Aaronson and Tyler Adams joining the club on permanent agreements over the summer. Leeds may be considered an America’s team.
