The manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag came under fire from Piers Morgan for “deliberately embarrassing” Cristiano Ronaldo. Ten Hag’s decision to leave Ronaldo off of the Manchester United team that faced Chelsea came before the presenter’s rant. In United’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Ronaldo reportedly refused to enter as a replacement before marching back to the locker room while the game was still in progress. Ten Hag reportedly excluded Ronaldo as a result.

At Stamford Bridge, when a spectacular equalizer from Casemiro in the 94th minute narrowly saved a 1-1 draw against Graham Potter’s team, Ronaldo’s absence was more than felt. However, Morgan ripped into the United manager with a vengeance since Ronaldo was nowhere to be found.

In a twitter post Piers Morgan wrote: “ Ten Hag trying to lecture @Cristiano on standards & values when he’s deliberately humiliating him… what a joke. One is the greatest footballer of all time & a champion in 4 countries… the other was a crap player & as a manager, has barely won a conker fight outside of Holland.

Ten Hag claimed that dropping Ronaldo was a strict decision, with the preservation of “standards” and “values” serving as the primary guiding principles. When asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence, Ten Hag responded plainly, “We don’t have Martial, we don’t have Cristiano Ronaldo.”

“They are two offensive players who score the most goals, so you miss them. But we had to do it, because standards, in the long term, are more important, to set the right culture.

“Also, the team process, we need to control the standards and values.” United remain in fifth position, just one point behind fourth placed Chelsea.

On Thursday, July 27, Man United will play Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League before hosting West Ham United to Old Trafford. It is unknown if Ronaldo will participate in any of these games.
