What is the ‘Secret Barca’ clause in Bruno Guimaraes’ contract with Newcastle?

Bruno Guimaraes signed a 5-year contract with Newcastle United, but there’s a unique ‘Barcelona’ clause. This clause means he can join Barcelona for a lower fee, around €65 – €70 Million.

According to sports journalist Toni Juanmarti, the 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder really wants to play for FC Barcelona. However, Barcelona’s financial problems and Joao Felix’s recent salary disclosure during his loan spell at the club might make them delay signing Guimaraes.

Bruno Guimaraes joined Newcastle United in 2022 for a transfer fee of €46 Million and has since then become a fan favorite amongst the Geordie crowd. “The fans have made me feel at home since my first day here and I feel so loved in my life,” the midfielder expressed when interviewed after signing a new deal keeping him at the club till 2028.

Newcastle manager, Eddie Howe has nothing but praise for the player stating, “He epitomises the recent success we’ve had. He’s put in so many good displays, he’s very consistent and he’s got a great personality off the pitch.” 

With reports of Bruno Guimaraes’s new contract including a €115 Million release clause, Newcastle United holds the player in high regard even if the player has shown an interest in Camp Nou.

Bruno Guimaraes loves playing for Newcastle United

While the ‘Barcelona clause’ may exist in Bruno Guimaraes’s new 5-year contract, the Brazilian loves Newcastle United. In an interview, Bruno’s fiance, Ana Lidia Martins mentioned how the couple had never seen ‘this kind of love’ even in their 2 years in France when the Brazilian represented Olympique Lyon. “We love to be Geordie you know,” Bruno laughed.

Within a month of signing for Newcastle United, the Magpies already had a song prepared for the player. In an away game against West Ham United in the Premier League, fans of Newcastle United were recorded singing “Bruno’s f**king magic, he wears a magic hat.” Bruno only played 2 minutes in that game coming on in the 88th minute. The player’s father has also created a special bond with the club celebrating with Newcastle fans in a pub.

Bruno Guimaraes claimed, “Signing for Newcastle was the best thing in my life, really,” in Newcastle’s documentary. With the love and support the player has received from the fans, it is easy to see why.
