Fabrizio Romano is currently the most reliable journalist in the football transfer market. He is said to have 100% reliability and has amassed a huge following on social media. The Italian reminisced covering his first story when he was 18, writing for TuttoMercatoWeb.
An agent with strong links to Barcelona urged him to write about two young players who were Mauro Icardi and Gerard Deulofeu. Both were at La Masia at that time. In an interview with Sportbible, Fabrizio Romano said, “He told me, ‘If you can help me, I know you are a young journalist, could you do an article about two players I am talking with?’ “They were Gerard Deulofeu and Mauro Icardi.
“I started this relationship with him and it helped me because when Icardi arrived in Italy at Sampdoria and then Inter, I had the news. The Icardi news was for the first big one for me.” “I had the news outside the window; the agent called me in November and told me they found an agreement with Inter and that Inter are going to close the agreement with Sampdoria.“
He continued, “That’s how it started and I immediately loved this role of a journalist. The transfer market is a jungle I always say, you expect the unexpected every day and I like this feeling. “In my opinion it’s like playing football in a Champions League match, and when you break this kind of news it’s like scoring a goal in the Champions League final.”
The agent has since started to work for Sky Sports Italia. He has become one of the most recognisable faces in the sport, despite never playing it.
Fabrizio Romano gives Andre Onana update
Fabrizio Romano has been really popular with Manchester United fans. He became a household name when he started reporting on the Jadon Sancho saga. While the signing hasn’t exactly turned out as expected for the club, it has hugely benefited the journalist. Therefore, he now pins a transfer tweet every time it involves Manchester United and the deal seems close.
Recently, the Red Devils have been linked with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana to replace the departed David De Gea. He has already played under Erik Ten Hag at Ajax. Romano has reported that the deal is very close to fruition and set to be sealed by the end of next week. The personal terms have already been agreed with the player.
The Nigerian goalkeeper will add an attacking prowess to the team as his strengths lie mainly in his ability on the ball. As mentioned previously, Fabrizio has pinned this tweet on his Twitter account.
